How do you treat those things that are of great importance to you? You definitely care for them and protect them from being harmed. I remembered a fellow felt so bad because his goat died despite the fact that he prayed. I tell you the truth that your man of God is of enormous importance to you and not only must you care for him in terms of material needs, you must also ensure he is safe from danger.
This will lead me to the second thing on my list of how you can honour your man of God, which is;
1 Thess 5:25
Brethren, pray for us.
Several Christians of this dispensation are not used to praying for the man their submitted to, “after all, he is a pastor” they say! As if pastors don’t need prayers. The truth is they need prayers than every other Christian. This is because they have a lot of involvements and everyone wants them to attend to them. So there is every possibility that by the time they are through, they might be too tired to carry out any spiritual exercise. And where are you on whom they have labored; to carry them on the day of their weakness?
Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
Peter had prayed for several members of the church, he had healed some with the name of Jesus but the truth is the situation was not always like that; a time came that peter was the one that needed prayers (though he was a leader of the church) and thank God the church was faithful in her responsibility, they gathered and prayed for the man of God. And you know what happened? He received the ministry of an angel.
If only we are faithful in this area, several gifts of Christ that has gone to be with the lord so early might still be around; blessing thousands of people and bringing many to the kingdom of God. The devil has cheated the church so much in this area because when these men die, we usually do not have replacements for them and the church will be the one to bear the loss. Imagine if Herod had slayed Peter, what a great loss would it have been? But thank God the church prayed for him and God answered. The church of this dispensation has developed no faith in their prayers; they believe God is more interested in condemning them for their wrongs than He is in answering their prayers, what a great delusion
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
The church has lost enough great men that were mightily used of God; we must gather around the gifts of Christ and protect them from the evil one. The truth is, it is only when they are on earth that they can minister to us as Christ has ordained them to.
23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.
25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;
26 That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.
If we love the man we are submitted to, we would spend time in the place of prayer to pray for him and his family. Because they are the targets of the devil, the devil knows if he can take them out or distracts them; it will be easy for him to put an end to their ministry. That is why the devil takes special interest in telling lies about men of God, cause them to fall and destroy their homes. So that he can rubbish their ministry and prevent people from being blessed by their ministry. We must be wise and come to this understanding that the fight of the devil against men of God is an indirect war against us, his plan is to prevent us from being blessed. We must ensure that our man of God is not an easy prey to the enemy.
30 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;
31 That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints;
32 That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.
How many times we desire that men of God declare the truth plainly without compromise? Well, it comes at a price which sometimes might be their lives, or their names. How else can we encourage these men if not for us to support them which include we bowing down our knees to intercede for them.
2 Thess 3:1-2
1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:
2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.
When we hear rumours about them, we don’t spread it around. We quickly bow down our knees to pray that the lord should deliver such from the mouth of the devil that is roaring about to devour their ministry, that the lord help him to stand with the right attitude in his time of trial.
How many times we attend some programs and all we can say is “the preaching was dry”? As if it is only the responsibility of the man of God to ensure we are blessed. You too have a responsibility towards efficiency of the man of God in the speaking of the word.
3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
Make it a habit to pray for your man of God, pray for his family and for his ministry. Pray for him anytime he wants to minister that God would open unto him the door of utterance to speak the mystery of Christ as he ought to. And that the evil one will not destroy his family. Tell the lord to help him stand so that he will not fall into the traps of the enemy.
As you do this, not only are you walking in love towards your pastor, you are walking in love towards yourself and towards the church in general. The church must learn from her mistakes, and block all the loop holes as we prepare for greater harvest of souls than the ones we have had.
