When you read the topic, what came to your mind was “Sunday” right? And that’s exactly what i want to talk about.
The Jews have Sabbath day which is Saturday, and if we were to be keeping the Mosaic law, we would have to worship on that day and ensured that we do no work on Saturday. The basic idea to the Mosaic law is the fact that it is one law with many shades so if you break one, you break all.
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
So part of the law includes not working on Saturday. Meanwhile, throughout my childhood we were taught that Saturday is for work and i get the gist; we are not Jews and we have no business with the Mosaic law.
If we then come down to Christianity, many people have questioned why Churches conduct their services on Sunday. If only they had read their bible, they would have seen that church meetings were conducted in the bible on the first day of the week which is Sunday not on sabbath day. And that’s because the church has no business with the Old Testament laws.
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days.
You can see here that Paul gave no regard for sabbath days as touching work and worship. If Hellen G. White had read this verse properly, she would have dumped her visions and embrace the word of God. But because of her ignorance, the whole Seventh day Adventists’ Church kept advocating for the restoration of sabbath day.
1 Corinthians 16:2
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God has prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
It is obvious from this verse that believers met on the first day of the week and that’s not sabbath, that is Sunday.
While the practices of worshipping on Sundays are in the bible, the teachings of the new testament doesn’t limit worship to a day. The New Testament doesn’t command the setting apart of a day for worship; everyone can worship every time and every where. So you can start a church and the members base on their schedules can decide to be meeting on a Monday or any day at all for worship and decide to be selling at the market on Sundays. That is completely acceptable.
What’s important about church meetings is not the program or the place or even the day. What the whole idea is about is the gathering of believers; a place where spiritual growth will be facilitated for Christians.
Nothing should be attached to any day of the week. They are equal and they are all holy unto a holy man. Sabbath day was a shadow of the rest believers will enter in Jesus Christ and now that the substance has come, let’s do away with the shadows and embrace the substance. God bless you!
